Austria’s stretch of friendly spring weather is about to end. According to forecasts from Geosphere Austria, a disturbance sweeping in on Sunday will trigger a marked change in conditions, with unsettled weather expected to linger into the start of next week.

Sunny Friday Before Clouds Build

Friday begins with widespread sunshine across the country. As the day progresses, cumulus clouds will form, though most regions will remain dry. Only isolated showers are possible in Upper and Lower Austria as well as parts of Upper Styria.
Winds will blow lightly to moderately from northern directions. Morning temperatures range from 3 to 11 degrees, with daytime highs between 17 and 23 degrees.

Weekend Outlook: Still Mild, but Change Approaching

Saturday: Mostly Sunny Under Weak High Pressure

A weak ridge of high pressure will maintain mostly sunny conditions on Saturday. The morning hours will be particularly bright across much of Austria. Later in the day, cloud buildups are expected over mountainous and hilly terrain, but showers will remain rare and short-lived.
Temperatures start between 2 and 10 degrees and rise to 16–24 degrees in the afternoon. Winds continue light to moderate from the north.

Sunday: Disturbance Brings Widespread Showers

On Sunday, a disturbance zone will move in from the northwest. Sunshine will still appear in the southeast early on, but dense clouds and showers will spread across the country by late morning, reaching the east by evening.
The heaviest rainfall is expected along the northern Alps, especially in the Waldviertel and Mostviertel regions. Burgenland will stay dry the longest.
Morning temperatures range from 2 to 9 degrees, with highs between 15 and 22 degrees.

Unsettled Start to the Week

Monday: Rain in the West, Cloudy but Drier in the East

Monday remains unstable, particularly in western Austria, where frequent rain and showers are forecast—most notably in Tyrol and Carinthia. Further east, clouds dominate but precipitation is less likely.
Winds will blow from the northwest in the north, east, and higher elevations, otherwise remaining light to moderate. Temperatures start between 2 and 11 degrees and reach 10–17 degrees during the day.

Tuesday: Cloudy North, More Sun in the West and South

A weak disturbance will continue to affect the northern Alps on Tuesday, bringing cloudy skies and recurring showers. Sunshine will appear only briefly in these regions.
In the west and along the southern Alps, brighter intervals are more common, though shower activity will increase later in the day.
Winds remain light to moderate, occasionally freshening from the north to northeast in the east and southeast. Morning temperatures fall between 1 and 6 degrees, with daytime highs of 9–16 degrees.
